Movaz Networks has signed a multi-year, multi-million dollar supplier agreement with America Online (AOL) for deployment of Movaz’s RAY product portfolio, an optical networking solution with technologies for a wide variety of applications.

Products from Movaz will be used to power AOLwave, AOL’s all-optical metropolitan area network, which provides high capacity connectivity between AOL’s major data center facilities, the companies say. AOLwave also serves as the “on-ramp” to the AOL Transit Data Network (ATDN), AOL’s international high speed Internet backbone.

Movaz Networks is a privately held, venture funded company headquartered in Atlanta. It has the financial backing of Worldview Technology Partners, Meritech Captial Partners, Oak Investment Partners, Anschutz Investment Company, Silicon Valley Bank, Menlo Ventures and Telus Ventures. Movaz recently closed on $60 million in series C funding, with GATX Ventures also participating with existing investors.
