Trimeris, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRMS) has appointed George Koszalka, a former Glaxo executive and N.C. State Ph.D. graduate, to the position of senior vice president of corporate strategy.

Koszalka formerly served in his role at Glaxo since 2001, with global responsibilities for research and clinical virology.

Since 1973, Koszalka held several positions of responsibility within research and development at Glaxo, which has dual U.S. headquarters in RTP and Philadelphia. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from North Carolina State University.

Trimeris is a development stage, biopharmaceutical company based in Durham that is engaged in the discovery and development of therapeutic agents that block viral infection. Trimeris’ lead product candidate, T-20, which inhibits fusion of HIV with host cells, is currently in Phase III clinical trials and has received fast track designation from the FDA.
