Editor’s note: Where can entrepreneurs go when they are seeking capital? Local Tech Wire features a profile of a venture capital or investment firm each business day. Matthew Burns, Worth Civils and Daniel Pearson compiled the series. The three founders of TeleKey, a prepaid long-distance calling card company, took an undisclosed portion of the money they made off the operation’s 1999 sale and started Seraphim Partners, which, as the name suggests, makes angel investments in technology companies. The firm focuses on wireless communications, network software and interactive media ventures.

Seraphim typically invests between $100,000 and $300,000 in each portfolio company and looks to provide entrepreneurs with counsel based on the three partners’ own experience. While TeleKey once was on the Inc. 500 fastest-growing companies list and ultimately achieved a successful end, it also underwent layoffs, survived a technology failure, bad budgeting and unrealistic sales projections and endured a tortuous due diligence period before its sale.

The firm concentrates its portfolio in the Atlanta area, including such companies as AuctionWorks, Fast-Talk Communications, RF Solutions, Servigistics, Silverpop Systems and Trade Ups.
