Former Polish president and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Lech Walesa has joined the board of directors of NuTech Solutions, Inc., a provider of predictive analytics and profit optimization software.

“NuTech is the kind of company that is transforming the business world with its breakthrough technology and software applications,” Walesa said in a prepared statement. “The company stands as a testimony to the ability of talented individuals to turn their dreams into reality if given the chance.”

Walesa is currently the patron of the Lech Walesa Institute, a foundation that aims to advance the ideals of democracy and free market reform throughout Eastern Europe and the rest of the world, and he speaks regularly to audiences around the world. Walesa also led the 10 million-member Solidarity Labor movement that ended communist leadership in Poland and throughout the rest of Eastern Europe.

For this work, Walesa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Award of the Free World, and was named Man of the Year by Time magazine, The Financial Times, and the London Observer. In 1990, Walesa became Poland’s first democratically elected president by winning more than 74 percent of the vote, and during his five years in office set the country on the path to becoming a free-market democracy.

“As a pioneer of democracy in Eastern Europe, Lech Walesa was instrumental in Poland’s successful transition to a free market society, and is a leader for the transition to democracy for the rest of the world,” Matthew Michalewicz, the Polish-born chief executive officer and co-founder of NuTech, said in a statement. “Walesa’s insight and leadership will be extremely valuable to us as we continue to grow our company in today’s global economy.”

NuTech’s previous board appointments are former Bank of America Chairman and CEO Hugh McColl, Jr. and William Gaither, retired chief executive of Heafner Tire Corp.

Founded in 1999 by then 23-year-old Michalewicz and based on the adaptive business intelligence technology developed by his father and a team of scientists, NuTech is a privately held company. It serves organizations in the financial services, manufacturing, and retail industry, including more than 25 Fortune 500 clients. NuTech’s software is also utilized by the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Navy, and the Polish National Air Force. With 125 employees, the company holds numerous software patents, and boasts a scientific staff of more than 30 PhDs. NuTech closed on $3 million in additional financing in January and says it is now profitable.
