CoreNet Network Services, a provider of engineering, design, maintenance and installation services for telecommunications service providers such as Time Warner, SBC Datacom and CNN, is being acquired by NorthStar Communications Group, which operates in the same marketplace. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

NorthStar Communications, formerly owned by Allstate Insurance Company, has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of BE&K, one of the largest engineering and construction firms in the U.S., since it was acquired by that company in 1998.

Company officials did not immediately return phone calls asking if CoreNet employees would be cut due to overlapping positions.

NorthStar Communications is ranked among the top U.S. telecom engineering and design firms by Engineering News-Record magazine.
