XcelleNet, Inc., a provider of applications and solutions for the mobile infrastructure market, is acquiring Sweden-based Ehand AB, a developer of software that links handheld devices with corporate networks.
Privately held XcelleNet declined to reveal details of the merger.
The acquisition allows XcelleNet to expand its sales and business development presence in Europe where consumer use of wireless devices is extraordinarily higher than in the U.S., the company says
The company’s services aim to synchronize handheld applications with corporate data, to enforce system configurations, to backup and restore and to track hardware and software assets, among other solutions.
In a statement released by the company, Gartner Group Research Director Ronni Colville says: “For PDAs to become an integral business tool, enterprises must guarantee that these devices are reliably and securely managed. To accomplish this, IT organizations need a robust and flexible infrastructure designed to meet the challenges of mobile deployments for any device in a users personal network. As a user’s mobile infrastructure grows, Gartner expects significant consolidation as vendors add to their feature sets to address these complex needs.”
