Piedmont Angel Network Hires First Fund Manager

A former United Way executive will lead a new angel investor group as it prepares to make its first investments.A United Way executive has been hired as fund manager of the Piedmont Angel Network, a recently organized angel investor organization in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina.

Lou Anne Flanders-Stec has extensive experience with early-stage companies, having served as chief financial officer for eDesigner Source, a Winston-Salem startup supplying interior design materials over the Internet, and for Signature Capital, a private
equity fund in New York City. She most recently was vice president of finance and administration for the United Way of Greater Greensboro.

“Lou Anne will be a great asset to the Piedmont Triad entrepreneurial community,” Jake Froelich of The Froelich Companies, one of PAN’s founding investors, says in a statement. “She has been on the inside with a early-stage company seeking financing and on the outside with a venture fund investing in young companies. She knows how the game is played.”

The Piedmont Angel Network was formed in December 2001 as a joint project of the Small Business Development & Technology Center and the Piedmont Entrepreneurs
Network, a support organization for area startups. It already has amassed a $2.6 million fund from 46 investors and expects to make its first investments within the next two months.
