Saffron Technology has been awarded a sole source contract to build a customized version of SaffronNet for U.S. government customers.

The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA), a federally funded research and development company, awarded the contract to Saffron, a privately held software company founded in 1999 in RTP. The IDA exists to evaluate new technologies in order to provide unbiased advice to U.S. government agencies.

Timothy P. Coffin, the technical lead of the IDA selection team, said in a statement: “We performed a very broad review of the technology available and found Saffron to have the most impressive solution. SaffronNet’s ability to automatically process and understand large quantities of unstructured data was extremely compelling to us. We were impressed with the initial SaffronNet prototype and are extremely excited about where this project is going.”

SaffronNet is Saffron Technology’s knowledge discovery application. SaffronNet has the ability to process and learn about complex data in order to allow users to more quickly and easily explore and understand their data. This product delivers critical link analysis functions that show the relationships in the data that can be used to make better, more informed decisions.

Andy Dallas, vice president of government programs at Saffron, added in a press release: “We are extremely excited about working with the IDA team. They have sophisticated customers who are struggling with very large volumes of complex data. These customers need the analytic and scaling abilities of SaffronNet to fully understand the information they have in order to make better decisions.”

In December, Saffron teamed with UNC-Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School to provide new military logistics solutions for Boeing, the largest aerospace company in the world. The Center for Logistics and Digital Strategy at Kenan-Flagler uses SaffronOne technology to provide Boeing with logistics tools for Boeing’s Log Net project, a software system that provides an integrated view of the military logistics environment. The Boeing Log Net system enables logisticians to gain situational awareness of forces around the world and to make better decisions about how to support them.
