COLUMBIA, S.C. … SCANA Communications, the telecommunications subsidiary of electricity and natural gas provider SCANA, has completed the sale of its 800 MHz emergency radio network to Motorola for an undisclosed price.
SCANA formed the wireless network in 1991 to allow governments and utilities to communicate following disasters. Operation of the network was turned over to Motorola last June while the sale was being negotiated. Company officials say they chose to sell to Motorola because the Illinois-based firm committed to upgrade the network to a digital format and expand it statewide.
