Privately held email marketing firm Bronto Software is adding Australia to its growing operations.

The Durham-based company also is looking to hire “well over” 20 people this year. Bronto recently expanded its headquarters space in The American Tobacco Historic District, taking over the offices vacated by Intersouth Partners.

Citing a growing e-commerce market in Australia as well as a growing number of customers, Bronto is opening an office in Sydney. It’s the first overseas expansion for the firm since opening a London operation two years ago.

Sales and support professionals will be hired to man the office.

“The time to expand into Australia is right. The Australian e-commerce market is growing, and we already have a number of great Australian clients, including 2XU, Virgin Wines, Asics and O’Neill,” said Bronto CEO Joe Colopy in a statement. “This new office will help us to serve clients better, strengthen partner relationships and add to our global roster of commerce marketing customers.”

Bronto doesn’t disclose specific financial details but said overall revenues increased “over 25 percent” in 2013.

The company finished the year with 176 employees and looks to “increase its global headcount to well over 200” this year.
