Facebook is bringing its “TechPrep” initiative to Durham for a workshop.

The program aims to encourage more children to become interested in computer science.

TechPrep, which is a ree online resource hub in both English and Spanish, is designed to help parents, guardians and students from “underrepresented communities” to explore programming, programmer-related jobs and what skills are required to become one.

“Our goal is to help bridge the gap between potential interest and opportunity by joining together hundreds of resources to develop coding skills, curated based on who you are and what you need,” Facebook says..

The program is set for Wednesday, June 30, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The site is the Emily K Center, 904 W. Chapel Hill, in Durham.

The event is free but registration is requested.

Facebook says its employees “will talk with parents, guardians and students of all ages about how they started studying computer science and the resources available to help them or their children begin studying it as well.”
