Tom Staab, who has worked with a number of life science firms in the Triangle, is the new chairman of the biotech trade organization NCBIO.

Staab is currently chief financial officer at BioCryst Pharmaceuticals. Earlier in his career he served as CFO and executive vice president of Inspire Pharmaceuticals as well as acting CFO and treasurer at Triangle Pharmaceuticals.

“NCBIO is a strong advocate for the biosciences industry in our state and works collaboratively with the Congressional delegation, the General Assembly, the state Executive Branch and key national, state and local organizations to support and grow life science companies.  I look forward to working with Sam Taylor to continue the influential work of NCBIO and grow this important industry in North Carolina,” Staab said in a statement.

Taylor is president of NCBIO, which has some 150 members.

“We are pleased that Mr. Staab is serving as Chairman of NCBIO. His work on the Executive Committee and the Audit Committee has provided him with the experience and the financial background of the organization to help improve the policy environment for our member companies,” Taylor said.

In other offices: Terry Shipwash (NCBIO Director of Operations) will be secretary of the organization, and Tom Fagley of (Hughes Pittman Gupton) will continue to serve as treasurer.
