If you have ever dropped your smartphone on a hard surface and cracked the screen or lost touchscreen capability, you’ll like this technology advance: Motorola’s new Droid Turbo 2 available only from Verizon and introduced today has the world’s first shatterproof display screen. It also has a 48-hour battery life and rapid charger that will power it up in 15 minutes.

Moto ShatterShield’s display technology is an integrated system consisting of five-layers designed from materials that absorb shock from impact and are proven not to crack or shatter. The integrated system maintains touch performance and structural integrity over the life of the Droid Turbo 2. The screen on the Droid Turbo 2 provides a 5.4-inch Quad HD display, so photos, videos, games, and text look extra sharp.

The Droid Turbo 2 also provides up to 48 hours of battery life, and is the world’s fastest charging smartphone. TurboPowerTM charging provides up to 13 hours of power in just 15 minutes of charging.

Developing the shatterproof screen “Was not easy and took our team three years,” said a Verizon exec at the event announcing the new phones. “It’s a five layer integrated system designed from materials that absorb shock. It has a flexible display that bends rather than breaks if dropped.”

He demonstrated its toughness, dropping it screen first on a slab of concrete multiple times with no apparent affect on the phone. It also has redundant touchscreen technology that’s harder to knock out.

You can also customize a Droid Turbo 2 with Moto Maker. Pick your favorite color and customize the back of the phone with materials like leather or ballistic nylon. Moto Maker offers more than 1,000 different combinations.

Droid Maxx 2

This year’s Droid line up also includes one more Droid — The Droid Maxx 2. It’s designed with the essentials in mind: 48 hour battery life, a 21-megapixel camera, TurboPower™ charging which gives you 8 hours of use with a 15 minute charge2, and a 5.5-inch full HD display. So you still get those great features that Droid has to offer at a great price point.

You’ll also be able to personalize your Maxx 2 with 5 additional interchangeable Motorola Shells (sold separately) featuring a soft grip texture available in different colors. Or boost protection without adding bulk by choosing a Motorola Flip Shell in one of 3 color combinations. Now, you can swap between different colors whenever you want.
