Valencell is receiving international publicity in Las Vegas at one of the world’s largest technology events.

The Raleigh-based startup that is developing wearable technology products focused on fitness has signed a deal with LG Electronics for use of its wireless biometric measuring technology.

The deal was disclosed Tuesday at the Consumer Electronics Show.

“Having one of the foremost global consumer electronics brands incorporate PerformTek sensor technology into its products reaffirms that PerformTek is the only fitness biometric technology proven to be accurate and consistent across different activities and environments, while still being small enough to fit in audio earbuds,” said Steven LeBoeuf, president of Valencell.

“Consumers trust LG to deliver pioneering innovations, and this product will help people achieve their performance and fitness goals while providing a high-quality audio experience.”

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

LG Electronics will use Valencell’s PerformTek as part of a new Bluetooth-equipped heart rate monitoring earphone.

The device is designed to provide a user with a variety of information as well as music or while talking on a phone.

PerformTek will provide data related to the users’ heart rate as well as distance, speed and calories burned.

Valencell’s technology is patented.
