There were sweeping layoffs of the contractor force at IBM in RTP just four weeks ago that went un-covered by this website. Mostly within STG, with the Hardware Development groups getting especially hard hit.

There are persistent rumors that more layoffs may occur before the end of the year.
"In the technology sector, this was not only due to the recession, but to significant advances in operating efficiencies which decrease the need for increased jobs," Steinbacher said...how silly...a clever way of saying due to recession and substantial tax increases on capital gains in the US, there are more cost-effective incentives overseas. ...let's call a spade a spade. better tax incentives and cheaper labor abroad are the primary reasons for the decreased work force.The "investment" in reference to Durham that Steinbacher refers to is miniscule in comparison to money saved sending substantial head counts overseas. Our rediculous corporate and capital gains taxation in the states will only continue to our precipitous downfall in this country. A president obsessed with welfare over wealth will ensure that we have neither.
