  • Paul Gilster at Centauri Dreams: Directly Imaged Planet in a Triple Star System

Technologist, author and blogger Paul Gilster of Raleigh takes us to that new triple star system in his latest column at Centauri Dreams:

“Into the annals of oddball orbits now comes HD 131399Ab, a planet whose wide orbit inside a triple-star system is unlike anything we’ve yet seen. 320 light years from Earth in the constellation Centaurus, this is a gas giant of about four Jupiter masses that was discovered through direct imaging. The discovery was made with the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in Chile using the SPHERE (Spectro-Polarimetric High-contrast Exoplanet REsearch) instrument, which exploits differential imaging to screen stellar light from planetary signatures.”

  • Chris Heivly of The Startup Factory on his Big Top Reverse Job Fair

It’s coming up July 12 at the Frontier, and Chris is inviting job seekers as well as companies to participate:

“In 4 days, we will host our 13th Big Top Reverse Job Fair. (OMG – 13???)

“This event brings together multiple tech companies and over 100 open positions AND hundreds of you who are curious about what your next role may be.

“And, I provide the beer, soda, water, hot dogs, popcorn and peanuts.

“Big Top works for you as the companies get on stage and pitch you why you should consider working for them. After the pitches, you get an opportunity to meet hiring managers face to face. No resumes. No ties. No BS.
Hosted at the Frontier @RTP (inside – it is the summer you know), you can expect to hear from a diverse set of companies that are on a fast-growth trajectory. From startups to firms with hundreds of employees just like you, Big Top is an easy way to stay in the know.”

  • Charleston Post and Courier: HQRaleigh to expand to S.C.

Here’s what the Charleston Post and Courier has to say about HQRaleigh’s decision to expand southward:

“HQ Community, which has three locations in North Carolina, hopes to open a co-working office on the peninsula, said Allyson Sutton, the company’s director of marketing.

“Details on the project are still limited, Sutton said, and the company is still looking for real estate and local partners. In other cities, the company has found downtown spots near colleges and universities, and it has offered a mix of private office suites and open desks for rent.”
