  • Inc picks Mati Energy CEO for Under 30 honor

Tatiana Birgisson, 26, has made Inc.’s 30 Under 30 list in her role as counfder and CEO of Durham-based Mati Energy.

Here’s part of what Inc had to say about her:

“Five years ago, in a Duke University dorm room, something unusual was brewing. It was tea designed to eke out every bit of caffeine and antioxidants its little leaves contained. The brewmaster was undergrad Tatiana Birgisson, who had an aversion to coffee, but wanted a healthy energy booster.”

  • ​Valencell-Fitbit suit will continue

A lawsuit between Raleigh-based Valencell and Fitbit continues with a federal judge denying a recent motion by Valencell to quash a Fitbit counterclaim over patent technology, The Triangle Business Journal reports.

“Raleigh-based Valencell, which develops sensor technology for companies such as Scoshe and LG Electronics at a lab near North Hills, filed suit against Fitbit in January. The complaint accused the wearables giant of using heart rate sensors that infringed on its patents in devices such as the Charge HR and Surge,” the newspaper said.

Fitbit filed a counterclaim, and a judge denied Valencell’s motion to quash it.

  • New app to link farmers and customers

The News and Observer reports an app developed by Griffe Youngleson links farmers with customers who want fresh produce.

“The Farmzie app allows small farmers to conduct their business, from marketing to sales, online. Meanwhile, we consumers can shop a virtual farmers market to buy from the inventory of farms we choose based on what we need to plan our home or restaurant menus,” The N&O reports.

  • Biogen’s new drug

“The long-acting multiple sclerosis treatment that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved late last week will be manufactured in Research Triangle Park,” reports the Business Journal.

It’s called Zinbryta.

  • New entrepreneurship fellowship program

iNvictus, an entrepreneurial support group, is launching a new fellowship program called Masters of Fate.

It “will give eight minority-led entrepreneurial businesses stipends and access to capital and networking to support growth,” according to The Durham herald Sun.
