Ten Piedmont Triad-based companies have been selected as semifinalists to compete for three grants of up to $20,000.
PTP NEXT announced the 10 companies today at a reception at High Point University held in conjunction with the organization’s spring symposium. PTP NEXT is partnering with the Piedmont Triad Partnership and NC IDEA in awarding the grants. Semifinalists and winners will be chosen based on criteria including the potential for growth, entrepreneurial talent, innovation that addresses large, growing markets, and a scalable business model that spurs future job creation. The competition is limited to Piedmont Triad region companies. The ten companies selected to go forward in the competition will now submit business plan proposals to compete for one of the three grants. They are:
- Arcato Laboratories –The Greensboro company makes unique, proprietary products for specialty oral health care practitioners, such as orthodontists and oral surgeons.
- Bio-Adhesive Alliance Inc. – This spin-out from North Carolina A&T University makes eco-friendly, durable, low cost bio-adhesive from swine manure which can be used as replacement for petroleum-based adhesives. Its applications include highway pavement construction, emulsion and sealants, roofing, and carpeting and flooring adhesive,
- Biolucidation – This Winston-Salem-based contract research organization (CRO) specializes in preclinical evaluations to test potential addictive properties of drugs acting in the brain.
- Blue Atom Technologies – The company’s core products, nFlow™ and Chemically Aware™, were incubated within and spun out of Winston-Salem drug developer Targacept (NASDAQ:TRGT). The products are used to prioritize the right drug candidates to pursue through development.
- Focus Groove – The Greensboro company has a cross-platform web and mobile application for custom qualitative market research. It aggregates very specific demographic, geographic and psychographic research connects users with commercial clients.
- Green Cycle Design Group – The Winston-Salem company is designing green products for the transportation and energy industries and is building “first-of-its-kind electric transportation.”
- Laudiss Labs – Based in Winston-Salem, the company uses a proprietary micro/nano-technology platform to encapsulate 100 percent organic (plant) bioactive molecules which are formulated into innovative products for the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and veterinary industries.
- Mycorrhiza Biotech – The Burlington company is using biotechnology to improve agriculture, specializing in the application of mycorrhiza biotechnology.
- R.O.S. Therapy Systems – Based in Greensboro, the company manufactures and sells game and activity systems for seniors suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Stroke or any cognitive or physical impairment.
- Wrapped – An e-commerce shopping cart feature spinning out of Greensboro’s Shamrock Corporation that captures and enhances the rapidly growing digital gifting market by making it personal.
Winning companies will be announced on May 8.
