Lenovo, which is vying for the world’s No. 1 PC seller title with HP, is making a move into virtual reality programming capable PCs with a new machine.

High-performance computing is a bright spot in otherwise slow global PC sales, and VR is emerging as a growing demand both for content and content creation.

To meet the demand, Lenovo on Tuesday unveiled its latest tower of power, a ThinkCentre M910t desktop.

It’s available now for around $1,800.

The tower is a sign of Lenovo’s commitment as well to a growing demand for powerful PCs designed to meet the increasing technology needs for gamers.

The M910t targets developers of Oculus-related VR technology, having received Oculus-Ready certification.

“We’re excited to work with Lenovo to provide additional solutions to serve the booming VR market,” said Nate Mitchell, head of Rift, Oculus, in the Lenovo announcement. “The commercially-focused, Oculus Ready ThinkCentre desktop is a great example of all aspects of this growing industry being served.”

The machine also includes support for the NVIDIA GTX1080 graphics card, which Lenovo describes as “a must for high-end VR development in the booming PC gaming community.”

“Lenovo worked closely with Oculus on a thorough process that performs 100-point certification testing to ensure systems performance, stability and full compatibility with the Oculus Rift Software Development Kit,” says Lenovo, which operates one of its two global headquarters in Morrisville.

The machine also includes support for the NVIDIA GTX1080 graphics card, which Lenovo describes as “a must for high-end VR development in the booming PC gaming community.”

Lenovo notes that VR demand reached $1 billion in sales last year and added that VR “wearables” such as Oculus headsets are likely to outsell all other wearables this year.

“Lenovo is building on its experience with Oculus-Ready Lenovo Legion gaming desktops to offer a new certified business-class platform,” said Jerry Paradise, executive director for Lenovo Commercial Business Segment. “The ThinkCentre M910t provides an affordable high-performance system for an expanding VR developer community to create future VR experiences.
