Extreme Networks (Nasdaq: EXTR), which is expanding its engineering presence in RTP, continues to recruit talent for its management ranks from Triangle-area companies.

On Wednesday, the California-based networking technology firm said it had hired Marykay Wells, chief information officer at nearby Tekelec, as its CIO. Wells held the Tekelec job for the past five years.

Also joining Extreme is former Cisco executive Joe Novak as vice president of customer service. Novak most recently worked at Allscripts. Prior to Allscripts, he directed Cisco;s East Coast technical services center in RTP.

Extreme named a new human resources executive as well, hiring former Nortel executive Gary Garber as its vice president for “Talent and Culture.” Garber worked for Avaya Government Solutions, which had acquired assets from Nortel through that firm’s bankruptcy liquidation. Garber led human resources for the Nortel Enterprise Solutions group.

Wells and Novak also had worked at Nortel earlier in their careers.

Last May, Extreme hired Cree Chief Financial Officer John Kurtzweil as its CFO.
