The StartupBus has added a North Carolina stop – Durham’s American Underground.
The bus packs “entrepreneurs” – all strangers – who are tasked with conceiving of and planning the launch of a startup over the course of a three-day road trip ending at the South by Southwest Interactive conference in Austin, Texas.
Upon arrival, these “buspreneurs” are supposed to ready to launch.
The idea started as a lark in 2010.
This year, a handful of StartupBuses will be crossing the country this year en route to SXSW.
The New York bus is expected to reach Durham at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 3.
The American Underground will greet an estimated 35 “buspreneurs” with food, drink and a gathering of local investors and fellow entrepreneurs.
Among the American Underground entrepreneurs greeting the StartupBus will be Keval Mehta, founder and CEO of Durham startup INRFOOD.
Mehta is scheduled to present his company’s INRFOOD mobile app at SXSW.
The app provides consumers information about the ingredients in their food. All a user has to do is scan the product’s bar code with the camera in Apple’s iTouch, iPhone 3GS/4/4S or iPad2.
Information can also be entered manually. While INRFOOD is available for free, the company also offers additional features on a $2.99 version.
