Startup Grind, a fast-growing national network for entrepreneurs that is sponsored by Google, now has a chapter in Raleigh. I
ts first event is set for Aug. 21.
Raleigh entrepreneur Dannielle Williams-Prades is the Raleigh chapter director.
Startup Grind also has a chapter in Durham. That group has put on several events with guest speakers including venture capitalist Don Rainey and Steve Malik of Cary-based Medfusion.
Google for Entrepreneurs is the primary backer of Startup Grind. The opening of a Raleigh chapter is Google’s latest boost to the Triangle startup community. The internet giant’s entrepreneur program is already closely associated with the American Underground, which works with startups at two Durham locations and another in Raleigh. Google also hosted its first public Google Glass event in Durham.
Williams, Prades, who runs her own company, says marketing executive John Andrews headlines the local chapter’s opening event, which will take place at HQ Raleigh.
Andrews has worked with Hanes, Eastman Kodak Digital, Walmat and Newell Rubbermaid.
He takes “a hands on approach to implementing innovative marketing plans with demonstrated ROI,” Williams-Prades says.
Startup Grind Raleigh also has an event scheduled for Nov. 6 with Brian Hamilton of Sageworks.
Startup Grind launched in Silicon Valley in 2010. Its purpose is to help build a “connected network of vibrant startup communities.”
Chapters are not only located across the U.S. but in more than 80 other countries.
