Square 1 Bank is moving into the investment advice business.

The Durham-based bank which focuses on the venture capital industry and related businesses is rolling out Square 1 Asset Management. It’s designed to service corporations and institutional investors with cash management solutions.

A registered investment advisor, ot will act as a subsidiary of Square 1 Bank.

The group is led by Adam Dean, who joins Square 1 from SVB Asset Management, which is part of Silicon Valley Bank. Dean, whose title is senior vice president and managing director, will be based in Menlo Park, Ca.

“Through the launch of Square 1 Asset Management, we are expanding the depth and breadth of products and services our growing client base expects from a premier commercial bank,” Dean said in a statement. “Our goal, as with everything we do, is to provide clients with a better solution and experience than they can get anywhere else. Square 1 Asset Management will provide clients with superior service, industry-leading technology, and a highly-experienced leadership team, all on a very scalable platform. Our aim is to exceed the expectations of every one of our clients.”

Square 1 also added Stefan Fencl of Capital Advisors Group and Michael Nguyen, who worked with Dean at Silicon Valley Bank, to the new group’s leadership team.
