The Research Triangle Park Foundation is expanding the availability of office space – from startups to established businesses – at The Frontier building (and soon to be more) in RTP.

“After 18 months we’ve seen that there is a great demand for flexible, affordable office space, especially for small businesses that want to work in a creative, collaborative community,” an RTP spokesperson tells WRAL TechWire.

“So, we are expanding the Frontier, turning it from one building into a campus. We’re working with commercial brokers Cushman & Wakefield to lease additional space on the campus and extend the concept.

“They have just begun talking to prospects!”

The Frontier expansion reflects the growing availability of space for startups and emerging companies, such as at The American Underground, HQ Raleigh, First Flight Venture Center, and numerous others. The number of startups and entrepreneurial companies also continues to grow with 257 now at American Underground alone.

The Frontier is already home to 45 companies ranging from a handful to 75 employees.

The RTP Foundation made the announcement Friday.

“In January of 2015 we started The Frontier as somewhat of an experiment,” RTP CEO Bob Geolas said in the announcement.

“We expected there was demand in RTP for a convening space where the community could gather, collaborate and work on ideas and inventions. Over the past 18 months, the demand for this type of space has proven to be correct, so much so, we are expanding the concept to accommodate a larger community.”

The Frontier is a key part of the Foundation’s strategic plan to renew growth in the Park and is part of the Park Center project.

Space is available in various sizes.

Frontier offers what many entrepreneurs have praised as a collaborative environment. It also offers an onsite restaurant (The Farmery), meeting facilities, event spaces and more.

The Foundation is in the process of renovating and adding other space at two nearby buildings with 129,000 square feet available for lease at Building 600. The Fronter launched at Building 800. Building 700 also will be offered for office space.

“Just two years ago, an expanding post-incubator company or seed-funded small business had few options for plugging into the RTP community,” Geolas explained. “Now, with the expansion of The Frontier, we have a hub, that is accessible to all and is primed to incubate and retain businesses throughout their growth cycle.”

What follows is a description of office availability:

These affordable start-up spaces will be similar to the existing private offices located on The Frontier’s 3rd Floor that are fully leased.
