Lee Anne Nance is promoted to chief operating officer at the Research Triangle Regional Partnership, and Jennifer Bosser is named the executive director of the partnership’s high-profile Cleantech Cluster program.

The changers were announced by the economic development group on Monday.

Nance had served as executive vice president of the partnership and also served as managing director of the Cleantech Cluster, or RTCC, effort.

Bosser is the first executive director for the RTCC. Nance will remain an advisor to the group.

Most recently, Bosser served as assistant executive director for Wake County Economic Development since 2010,

The RTCC is the Partnership’s effort to bring together companies and institutions with an interest in or a focus on the cleantech cluster. Its growing membership already includes many well-known Triangle and international companies. Industry board members include: ABB Inc., Cisco Systems, Duke Energy, Field2Base Inc., Itron Inc., Piedmont Natural Gas, Power Analytics Corp., PowerSecure International, RTI International, SAS, Schneider Electric, Sensus and Siemens.

“Lee Anne has worked for the past three years to create and develop the RTCC into a robust, high-impact organization that is accelerating our region’s cleantech economy,” said RTRP Chief Executive Officer Charles Hayes.

“With Jennifer now at the helm of the RTCC, Lee Anne turns her full attention to developing and implementing a new strategic growth plan for the Research Triangle Region that creates new economic opportunity and value for our member counties and investors.”

Bosser assumes her new role on Sept. 1. Nance takes over as COO on Oct. 1.

Nance has managed implementation of the region’s economic development plan and its marketing and branding activities since joining RTRP in 2009. That year, the region identified cleantech as an economic development priority after discovering a dense concentration of companies and rich supply of researchers engaged in R&D, particularly in the areas of smart grid, smart water and smart transportation. Nance mobilized an industry-funded, industry-led initiative of business, government, academic and nonprofit leaders focused on driving innovation and growth in the cleantech sector.

Nance has already begun work on RTRP’s new strategic growth plan for the region that will build on its Triple Helix- and cluster-based economic development plans of the past decade. Implementation will begin in January.

Bosser, who has served as assistant executive director for Wake County Economic Development since 2010, has been integrally involved in the work of the cleantech cluster since that time as a member of its Advisory Council.

“Jennifer is an extraordinary talent and perfect fit for the RTCC. She emerged as the ideal candidate to lead the organization going forward,” Nance said. “She brings years of experience cultivating engagement among high-performing, technology-based companies, marketing regions for new investment and nurturing relationships that lead to innovation and business growth. We’re delighted she has joined our team.”

Bosser has overseen day-to-day operations at Wake County Economic Development, led the onboarding and existing industry efforts with companies and managed strategic marketing initiatives and projects, including development of a national media and public relations campaign that has resulted in 20 national media placements in the last 10 months. Her work over the past five years has contributed directly to the creation of 16,500 jobs and $1.8 billion in new capital investment in Wake County.

She has played a major role in building and maintaining relationships with 100 public and private-sector investors committed to a five-year, $10 million super fund campaign to support economic development in Wake County and the region. She has also led the region’s efforts to create a talent recruitment and retention strategy, Work in the Triangle, that is being recognized as a national model. In the past five years, Bosser implemented new tools and marketing collateral to position Wake County as a smart place for business and better communicate strategy and accomplishments with key investors and the community.

Previously, Bosser served as vice president of executive engagement and enterprise strategy for the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA). In that role, she managed marketing, communications and fundraising, including sponsorships and event revenue, which represented 50 percent the organization’s budget. During NCTA’s 12 months without a chief executive, she also oversaw day-to-day operations, board relations and budget management and managed the site search and relocation to new offices.

Bosser moved to North Carolina in 2005 from Washington, D.C., where she was corporate outreach specialist and manager of business retention for the Washington, D.C. Economic Development Partnership and membership sales manager for Destination DC.

She serves on the board of directors of Triangle Commercial Real Estate Women, executive committee of the board of directors for Community Workforce Solutions, board of advisors for NCTA and business advisory committee for Capital Area Workforce Development Board. She was recently recognized as a 40 under 40 winner by the Triangle Business Journal and as a Rising Star in Economic Development at the International Economic Development Council’s Leadership Conference.

Bosser received her Bachelors of Arts degree in communications/public relations from Towson University in Maryland and a certificate in economic development from the Oklahoma University Economic Development Institute.
