The Raleigh metro area ranks. 4 nationally for private-sector job growth over the past decade, according to new government statistics.

Business First, an American City Business Journals publication, broke out numbers on the top 67 metros in terms of largest private-sector jobs.

Raleigh placed fourth with more than 100,000 jobs added since July of 2007 – just ahead of the so-called Great recession.

The capital city area’s growth rate came in at 24.1 percent.

Austin ranked No. 1 with a 37.6 percent growth rate followed by Nashville (25 percent) and San Antonio (24.1 percent).

Charlotte came in 16th with a 14.8 percent rate of growth.

Greensboro was among the worst with a 1.8 percent drop in jobs.
