Drug giant GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK), which already is cutting hundreds of jobs in the Triangle and in the Philadelphia area, is now in the process of closing an office in Pittsburgh where 274 people work, according to the Pittsburgh Business Times.

The newspaper reported the news Thursday afternoon, citing unnamed sources.

Employees are being offered the opportunity to transfer to a GSK operation in New Jersey, according to the story.

The Pittsburgh operation once served as the North American headquarters for GSK. It occupies 150,000 square feet in a building GSK bought in 2002 for $19.4 million, the paper said.

The closure is expected by the end of the year.
