Randall (Randy) Gregg, 44, who founded the Triangle Tech Journal, precursor to the TechJournal, and seven other publications, was killed Friday, April 25th in a motorcycle accident in Durham.
Randy was a valued colleague and friend who loved creating both digital and print publications. He also loved adventure.
In an obituary, his brother Crash Gregg, editor and publisher of the Raleigh Downtowner, another publication Randy founded, wrote:
“He volunteered as an embedded journalist accompanying the Air Force in Haiti right after the earthquake, covered Hurricane Irene in Pamlico as it happened and wrote thousand of articles in his pursuit to tell the untold story. He was proud to have met four American Presidents, was interviewed on CNN and other national news shows numerous times and published four photography books of his travels and adventures.”
Other publications he created include The Raleigh Telegram, The Sun of Guilford County,and RTP-TV.
We never saw him without a camera and he published four books of his photographs.
He also loved vehicles, boats as well as motorcycles and once bought a full-sized bus he outfitted as an office with plush furniture.
Born in Greensboro, he was well known in the Research Triangle as a serial entrepreneur and journalist. He took a law degree, but never practiced.
He is survived by his mother and father, Grace and Stewart Gregg of the Greensboro area, and brothers Crash and Eric of Raleigh.
He leaves behind a legacy of journalistic and philanthropic accomplishments and a large group of friends and family around the globe who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at 11:00am at First Baptist Church of Summerfield, located at 2300 Scalesville Rd, Summerfield, NC 27358. In lieu of flowers, a contributing fund has been set up in Randall’s name at www.crowdrise.com/randallgregg.
