Luc Villenueve, a veteran executive with McAfee, NCR and Sun Microsystems in Canada, is the new “country leader” for Red Hat north of the U.S. border.

The announcement was made shortly before stock markets opened Monday.

“We live in a world that is evolving faster than ever, driven by consumer trends and behaviors, technology innovation and adoption, business productivity, and channel reach,” said Rick Akie, vice president and general manager of North America sales for Red Hat (NYSE: RHT). “I expect Luc’s leadership will be a significant asset to Red Hat as we continue our leadership in providing open source software solutions and expand both our global presence and open hybrid cloud vision.”

Villenueve will be based in Toronto. He will oversee sales, customer services, marketing and management of Red Hat’s Canada operations.

Before joining Red Hat, Villenueve served as president of McAffee Canada, NCR Canada and NCR Euyrope, and as a vice president of sales at Sun.
