Don’t be surprised if some trademark Red Hat fedoras aren’t showing up at Peak 10’s headquarters today.

On Thursday, Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) and Peak 10 announced that the global Linux powerhouse had established a co-location site for information technology, networking and engineering at a facility operated by Charlotte-based Peak 10.

The deal is a significant one, as Red Hat, which operates its global headquarters in Raleigh, noted in the announcement.

However, financial terms were not disclosed.

The move is designed to save costs and allow Red Hat to focuses on its core Linux software business, Red Hat said.

“Moving significant parts of our IT infrastructure to Peak 10 to support our global service delivery made its team an extension of our team, allowing us to concentrate on our core competencies and scale our business more rapidly,” said Lee Congdon, Red Hat’s chief information officer. “Peak 10 collaborated with us to design a solution that best fits our needs. By outsourcing to Peak 10, we have already experienced efficiencies and cost savings that we expect will have a positive impact on our bottom line.”

Peak 10 operates numerous data and IT hosting facilities, including one in Morrisville, and it now serves as one of the hubs for Red Hat’s own IT network.

“We are proud to play such a large role in Red Hat’s core IT strategy,” said Marilyn Finfrock, Peak 10 vice president and general manager, responsible for Raleigh area-based operations. “Red Hat has placed a great deal of trust in our team, and we are focused on successfully delivering a number of tailored solutions to help it meet its global business initiatives.”
