Open source software company Red Hat (NYSE:RHT) is partnering with Intel (NASDAQ:INDC) in an effort to drive adoption of its OpenStack cloud offering.
The On-Ramp to Enterprise OpenStack program will educate customers on the benefits and capabilities of Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, which runs on Intel servers. The OpenStack platform has been used in public clouds. But Raleigh-based Red Hat is now pushing for use of the platform in the data centers of enterprise customers as they seek to build their own private clouds.
OpenStack gives users the ability build and manage the public, private and hybrid Infrastructure-as-a-Service clouds.
“Red Hat’s longstanding relationship with Intel has played a key role in the adoption of Linux as the strong enterprise platform we see today,” said Radhesh Balakrishnan, Red Hat’s general manager, Virtualization, said in a statement. “Like Linux in its early days, collaboration among technology industry leaders can help foster enterprise adoption of OpenStack.”
Red Hat announced the availability of its OpenStack offerings in June.
The On-Ramp to Enterprise OpenStack program has two components. TestFlight allows users to test and evaluate Red Hat’s OpenStack offerings on Intel’s Xeon processor-based servers.
The second component is the On-Ramp to Enterprise OpenStack Road Tour, a series of workshops in North America and Europe consisting of instructor-led training and hands-on workshops. This tour of workshops will begin early 2014. More information is available on line at http://www.redhat.com/onramp.
In other Red Hat news, the company announced it has contributed software to the Gluster Community. The software integrates the GlusterFS open software-defined storage filesystem with the Intel Distribution for Apache Hadoop software. Red Hat says the new code will deliver big data analytics capabilities that easily integrates with existing IT infrastructure.
