Promising “Your map, your weather,” Weather Decision Technologies is teaming with Raleigh-based StepLeader to deliver the latest local weather information to mobile devices.
Privately held StepLeader, which works with media outlets to enable delivery of video and other data, and Weather Decision Technologies announced the real-time weather app Monday.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
The app will work across iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
“The future of news and weather apps ultimately hinges upon engaging user experiences. Weather features consistently prove to be one of the highest drivers of user engagement and retention in our apps,” said Brian Handly, chief executive officer at StepLeader.
” Working with a trusted content producer like WDT allows us to greatly expand our weather coverage and live out our mission, helping our customers earn more advertising revenue through engaging apps.”
StepLeader will also roll out related features for advertisers.

StepLeader is a spinoff venture of Capitol Broadcasting’s New Media group, the parent firm of WRALTechWire.
