Pharmaceutical services provider Quintiles (NYSE:Q) has won recognition as one of 40 leading companies in security controls.

The Durham company was named to the 2014 CSO40, a list compiled by CSO magazine. Quintiles said that it was recognized for its “Trusted Cloud Services Model,” which extends internal security controls to cloud service providers. Quintiles made the the annual list for the second year in a row.

Out of state companies that have major operations in the Triangle were also recognized in the CSO40 list. San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco Systems, which operates a large campus in Research Triangle Park, was recognized on the list for two projects. Credit Suisse and Metlife, both of which have data centers or are constructing facilities in the Triangle, were also named to the CSO list.

Projects eligible for consideration include any work that solves a business challenge. CSO magazine compiled the list based on the evaluation of the projects by a panel of judges that included security leaders, industry experts and academics. All judges used a uniform set of criteria to score the companies.
