Open Source 101, a one-day conference designed to teach the fundamentals of open source, will take place on Saturday, February 4 at The McKimmon Center on the campus of NC State University.
With corporate open source participation and usage now at all time highs, along with the demand for open source skills, many current and future technologists want and need to learn more. The event is a perfect opportunity for current technologists working in a proprietary environment and technology students at the university and high school level to do just that.
The more than 1,300 technical and c-suite responses from 64 countries included in the Blackduck/North Bridge annual Future of Open Source survey explains why this event is so important:
- 67% actively encourage developers to engage in and contribute to open source projects
- 65% of companies are contributing to open source projects
- 65% leverage open source software to speed application development
- 55% leverage open source software for production infrastructure
More than 500 are expected to attend. Attendees can choose from nearly 40 sessions delivered by more than 30 industry experts.
Many of the top technology companies found in the Triangle and around the country will also be represented including Red Hat, Capital One, GitHub, IBM, SAS, Sparkfun Electronics, Mesosphere, Elastic, The Linux Foundation, cPanel, Progress, Basho, Cloudbees, and many more.

Open Source 101 is being hosted by the team at All Things Open and in partnership withOpensource.com. All Things Open is the largest open source/tech/web conference on the East Coast of the United States. In 2016 more than 2,400 attended from 32 states and 19 countries. More than 3,000 are expected in 2017.
