Biotech company Novozymes, which has its North American headquarters in Franklin County, is expanding to Wake County, the governor’s office announced Wednesday.
The company will build a new bioagriculture research and development facility in Cary.
Novozymes said it will invest $36 million over the next three years and create 100 new jobs at the facility. Salaries will start at $70,000.
“Our growing world population and changing diets demand more crops from our arable land with less inputs. By substantially boosting our research and commercialization of environmentally friendly microbial technology, we will help farmers meet this demand in a sustainable way for the benefit of agriculture, consumers, the environment and society at large,” company president Adam Monroe said in a statement.
Officials in Franklin County, where Novozymes currently employers 545 full-time workers, welcomed the announcement, calling the company an “exemplary corporate citizen.”
The company is getting up to $400,000 in financial assistance for the Cary expansion from the state’s One North Carolina Fund, which targets projects that create economic growth. Companies receive no money up front and must meet certain performance standards to qualify.
