RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – The North Carolina Science, Mathematics and Technology Education (SMT) Center unveiled an innovative website on Monday linking North Carolina citizens to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education resources throughout the state and nation.

NC STEM Center now serves as a one-stop shop for resources, information and activities involving STEM education throughout North Carolina.

“North Carolina is blessed with many educational resources, but few places allow the public to access those resources easily and effectively,” said SMT Center President and CEO Dr. Sam Houston. “With ncstemcenter.org the public now has access to information on science camps, afterschool programs, funding resources and upcoming events all in one, easy-to-navigate website.”

The NC STEM Center website provides a comprehensive, searchable database of hundreds of STEM resources in North Carolina communities. These resources are catalogued by topic, location, group targeted, and other criteria.

In addition to the resource database, the online tool also includes other useful resources such as an events calendar, links to grants and funding resources, links to other national databases, and reports in the latest trends in STEM education from the local, regional, national and global perspectives.

“As superintendent of Warren County Schools, I am focused on providing our students access to STEM education,” said Ray V. Spain, superintendent of Warren County Schools. “This new website will provide parents and teachers in Warren County relevant resources in STEM education.”

The SMT Center is a non-profit organization focused on improving education as a means of providing all students in North Carolina with the knowledge and skills to have successful careers, be good citizens, and advance the economy of the state. Serving as a broker, facilitator, and catalyst for innovation and change in education, the SMT Center celebrates educational excellence in North Carolina by supporting educators, engaging students, and advancing the growing importance of having a STEM-educated workforce.

“To us, STEM really means Strategies That Engage Minds,” added Dr. Houston. “We believe ncstemcenter.org will be a great way to engage the minds of parents, teachers and the general public to learn more about the resources that can help us all learn the skills needed to keep North Carolina engaged and competitive in the next decade.”
