Patrick Fine, who has been chief operating officer at nonprofit international human development organization FHI 360, formally took over as CEO on Thursday.

He replaces Albert Siemens, who retired.

Siemens had announced plans to retire last November.

“It is a great privilege to continue Dr. Siemens’ legacy and to advance FHI 360’s mission of making a meaningful difference in communities around the world,” Fine said in a statement.

“As I step into this position, I enthusiastically embrace our clear vision for our organization: to remain one of the leading international nongovernmental organizations working in human development and to continue to deliver on our commitment to provide innovative, holistic, country-centered approaches that meet the challenges of the 21st century,” he added.

Fine joined FHI 360 as chief operating officer one year ago.

In the announcement, FHI 360 noted that Fine “has held leadership positions with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the Academy for Educational Development (AED). He participated in the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network (MFAN) and was a co-founder and former co-chair of the USAID Alumni Association. Fine is currently co-chair of the Alliance for International Youth Development and a member of the Board of Directors of the Washington, D.C., chapter of the Society for International Development.”
