Need a ride but confused by transit maps and just how much a taxi fare might be? Or you just don’t know what your options are?
A Washington, D.C.-based startup just may be your answer.
Startup RideScout on Monday launched an app to help people find transportation among a myriad of choices in Raleigh as well as Charlotte, Asheville and 66 other cities as part of a “Summer of 69” promotion.
The free app also helps users calculate the cost of their transportation.
While the Raleigh app includes startup Zipcar for rentals by the hour or day, ride services Lyft and Uber are not.
RideScout’s app also includes notifications for users when “you’re approaching your bus stop,” something it added in December. Google is now integration such transit notifications now, a RideScout spokesperson noted.
The app, which is available for both Apple and Android devices, includes information gathered from more than 330 transportation services.
The company had previously offered service in five cities. Privately held and backed by investors, RideScout first appeared at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas a year ago.
In Raleigh and the Triangle, RideScout includes information for:
- Capital Area Transit
- Chapel Hill Transit
- Triangle Transit
- Durham Area Transit Authority
- NC State Wolfline
- Cary Transit
- Zipcar (university campus)
- taxi
- Amtrak
Asheville information includes Asheville Transit Service and taxis.
In Charlotte, information is available for:
- Taxi
- Sidecar
- Charlotte B-Cycle
- Amtrak
