Forget business, technology lobbying and all that jazz for a few minutes.
It’s party time for the North Carolina Technology Association.
NCTA turns 20 this year, and the organization that has grown over time to represent the high-tech sector in our state, is planning a celebration on Feb. 20 at The Pavillion at the Angus Barn.
“NCTA will celebrate our anniversary with a reception honoring the past 20 years and looking to the future,” the group says in its invitation.
From the humblest of beginnings, NCTA has grown to include some 600 companies that collectively employ 100,000 people in the state.
No guest speakers. No formal agenda. Just some fun, mixed with recognition of NCTA leaders past and present.
“We will also acknowledge this anniversary throughout the year at our regularly scheduled activities around the state, but this is the main event,” writes Brooks Raiford, NCTA’s chief executive officer.
The fun will start at 6 p.m.
On Thursday, NCTA will host Wall Street Journal tech guru Walt Mossberg to launch its event-filled year. More than 260 people are expected to pack the program at the Umstead.
And on Feb. 1 NCTA will host its annual technology forecast event.
But come Feb. 20, the NCTA folks are just planning to have some fun as they review an event-filled history.
For those of us who were around and were part of NCTA’s earliest days as launched by the late Besty Justus, it’s hard to believe two decades have passed.
NCTA’s official anniversary date is actually in October.
However, celebrating early sounds like a good idea.
