North Carolina State University’s Office of Technology Transfer is opening an office suite at HQ Raleigh, a shared office space provider. NCSU wants to better link its entrepreneurial students and staff with the startup community, and HQ members will gain access to NCSU’s expertise in transitioning university technology to the private sector as well as research and innovation.
HQ Raleigh is expanding into new office space in Raleigh’s Downtown Warehouse District and is aiming to open the space in February.
NCSU will occupy space large enough for 10 startup companies.
“We are fortunate to be located in the Research Triangle area with such a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem to support our startups once they are ready to continue their growth off-campus,” said Wade Fulghum, assistant director for Venture Development at the Office of Technology Transfer. “Raleigh’s innovation ecosystem has seen impressive growth, and we are excited to provide our startup companies with access to the dynamic environment at HQ Raleigh.”
HQ Raleigh launched at an office building on Hillsborough Street near the N.C. State campus and was soon filled to capacity.
“This collaborative relationship with the Office of Technology Transfer will work to solidify the connection between NC State and the broader entrepreneurial community, thereby providing greater opportunities for entrepreneurs in the region,” said HQ Raleigh Executive Director Jason Widen.
The two organizations also will collaborate on events.
HQ Raleigh is developing a “community: that already includes more than 50 startups as well as industry partners and investors.
NCSU’s tech transfer office has helped launch more than 100 companies and commercialized more than 400 products.
