The North Carolina IT job market continued its improvement in June, with a daily average of 3,970 openings posted – up 21.8 percent from May.
But those job postings figures are actually down from previous years. June 2013 had 4,390 average daily job openings. In June 2012, there were 5,140 average daily job postings. The figures come from the latest monthly IT Jobs Report from the North Carolina Technology Association, published Friday. The report is sponsored by The Select Group and is based on data collected by SkillPROOF.
According to the report, the job posting pattern during the first two quarters of 2014 was very similar compared to the pattern last year, showing the cyclical nature of the job market as employers continuously estimate their need for staff for the business period.
“While sometimes the adjustments seem significant in size they don’t play a big role in actual short term hiring,” the report said. “Employers collect resumes on a rolling basis as the first stop when looking to fill unexpected vacancies. Only sustained increases/decreases in advertised job openings lead to actual changes in the size of payrolls.”
The top job category in June was systems engineer/support with 950 average daily job openings. That’s down from 990 in June 2013. IT management was second with 870 average daily job openings in June, down from 920 in June 2013.
But software development showed some growth. There were 700 average daily job openings in that category in June, up from 680 in the same period a year ago. Read the NCTA jobs report online.
