Mobile health care software developer DocsInk has raised nearly $1 million in a series A round of funding, the company announced Tuesday..

DocsInk, based in Wrightsville Beach, has developed a Facebook-like application to facilitate communication and record information in the health care process. The software allows health care providers to connect regardless of the technology systems they use, which the company says facilitates communication about patients and reduces redundancies that contribute to higher health care costs.

The DocsInk app also notifies providers and case managers with alerts of relevant developments regarding a patient, which streamlines the delivery of care. And the app also offers texting capabilities that are compliant with patient privacy regulations. DocsInk’s software can facilitate medical billing; its charge capture capabilities record and report billable services for payment. DocsInk claims that its customers report an average 15 percent increase in revenue and a 75 percent reduction in billing cycles.

Customers include the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania; Wilmington Health; the National Association of ACOs; and Cape Fear Cardiology Associates.

DocsInk was formed in January 2012, according to state corporation records. The company is led by founder and CEO Julie Thomas, who has 23 years experience health care industry experience including work in practice management and medical billing.
