Microsoft will open its retail store in the Triangle on Oct. 26.

That just happens to be the same day Microsoft begins sales of its new Windows 8 software.

And although the company isn’t confirming the news yet, Microsoft’s new “Surface” tables may premier the same day.

The Streets of Southpoint in Durham mall is one of numerous sites across the country getting Microsoft “pop-up” stores as they are being called for the holidays.

This store will be on the mall’s lower level in front of L’Occitaine and next to the Welcome Center, according to Microsoft’s website.

One also will be opened in Charlotte. Microsoft has been opening retail stores on a limited basis. 

“The holiday stores continue to offer customers the opportunity to learn new technology skills and get the most out of their Microsoft-enabled devices,” Microsoft said in the announcement.

The Streets of Southpoint was among the early selections for a retail Apple store. Apple also operates a store at the Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh.
