MCNC’s is postponing its “Broadband for the Future” event, originally scheduled for Friday, in deference to the funeral services for former Gov. Jim Holshouser.

Gov. Holshouser passed away on Monday. His funeral is scheduled for Friday afternoon in Southern Pines. MCNC said it would work with its host sites and speakers to determine a new date for the broadband event.

“Broadband for the Future” was planned to mark the completion in North Carolina of the $144 million Golden LEAF Rural Broadband Initiative. MCNC, a non-profit economic development group, said that Holshouser’s legacy includes establishing a network of rural health clinics, many of which are not served by the North Carolina TeleHealth Network.
