Virginia-based Lumos Network Corp., a fiber-based service provider in the Mid-Atlantic region, has agreed to acquire Raleigh-based Clarity Communications Group, which operates a 730-mile fiber network across four states, with the majority in North Carolina. Financial details were not disclosed.

Timothy G. Biltz, CEO of }Lumos Networks{{/a} said in a statement, ““Clarity, led by founders Todd Peverall and Andy Carwile, gives us an instant foothold within the Carrier and Enterprise verticals in many high growth North Carolina markets and gives us a new sales channel into various government end markets, including military installations and e-rate. Clarity will be a contributing factor in Lumos achieving the necessary scale needed to become a pure play fiber bandwidth infrastructure company.”

Lumos (Nasdaq: LMOS), serves Mid-Atlantic carrier, enterprise and data center customers with end-to-end connectivity in 24 markets including Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and Kentucky. With a fiber network of 9,204 fiber route miles and 475,507 total fiber strand miles.

In addition to its fiber network, Clarity operates carrier grade data center facilities in Raleigh, NC and Greensboro, NC with secure, environmentally diverse rack space.

According to its web site, , Clarity Communications, established in 1998, originally provided sales and engineering support to a number of wireline carriers in the Southeastern United States. Specializing in the design and sale of large bandwidth applications, Clarity quickly became a key driver of network expansion within the enterprise, carrier, wireless, government, and internet markets.

In 2015, Lumos Networks generated over $114 million in Data revenue over its fiber network.
