Lenovo is going gaga over Hollywood, Twitter and mixing in a dash of Apple in hyping new products – reportedly tablets and how to use them.

The world’s No. 1 PC maker acknowledged publicly Monday for the first time that it has picked Ashton Kutcher, the “Two and a Half Men” star, to promote what it says will be “our most exciting product announcement to date” during a live event on Oct. 29. Reports first surfaced in July that Lenovo was signing Kutcher – just off his role as Steve Jobs in a Hollywood biopic – to a two-year deal worth $10 million.

Using Twitter, Lenovo promises more news with a “#betterway” feed.

Lenovo will be using YouTube to unveil the news about its “product innovation.” Alternative music duo “Hunter Hunted” will provide live music as Lenovo continues its drive to diversify into smartphones and tablets while relying less on PCs in what Chairman and CEO Yang Yuanqing calls his “PC Plus” strategy.

While not a gala launch similar to what Apple will host today for what is expected to be new iPads, the Lenovo pre-event hype (media invitations, the Hollywood star, live music, international webcast) shows that the company is continuing to ratchet up its global branding.

But while the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant is the pitchman for Lenovo’s “K” smartphone lineup, what Kutcher will be pitching remains unknown to the general public.

A series of brief videos unveiled along with the Kutcher news in the invitation offers few clues that point to tablets.

What is the “#betterway”?

“Big news is coming! Tune in with Lenovo for a special livestream on Tuesday, October 29th at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT., with Ashton Kutcher as we get ready to unveil a #betterway. We’ll be announcing some exciting news and launching our latest product globally live around the world on our LenovoVision YouTube channel,” the invitation reads.

The three videos highlight:

  • “Velcro might give you a temporary grip”
  • “Hot glue and magnets? A #betterway is coming”
  • “Extension cords. Not exactly mobile, are they? …”

Bloomberg news offers some speculation: ”A web page set up by the company for the event contains three videos suggesting the announcement may pertain to a new tablet computer, or a better way to grip or power such devices.”

Is the announcement another new Lenovo tablet with something that grips it to a refrigerator?

Is it something that helps you keep a better grip on mobile devices?

Has Lenovo found a way to transmit power via wireless to portable devices?

Tune in Oct. 29 and find out.
