Lenovo, the world’s No. 2 PC manufacturer, will be a sponsor of the NHL Carolina Hurricanes for another three years under terms of a new agreement announced Monday.

As part of the contract, Lenovo and the Hurricanes are will co-sponsor a “Lenovo Community Champions” program that is designed to spotlight nonprofit groups and individual participants.

The recognition includes game tickets and public recognition in the area during 15 games.

Lenovo also is launching a Lenovo Champions Club area at Hurricane games. Since signing on as a sponsor in 2010, Lenovo has received branded signage in the arena as well as other benefits such as discount tickets for employees.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“The Carolina Hurricanes have been a valued Lenovo customer and now we’re excited to work with their team to recognize those who are doing good things and making North Carolina an even better place to live, work and play,” said Gerry Smith, senior vice president and president of North America operations for Lenovo.

The Champions program will put an emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education for disadvantaged youth and also on support of the military.

“We are excited to kick off this renewed partnership with Lenovo,” said Jim Ballweg, vice president of Corporate Partnerships with the Carolina Hurricanes. “We are committed to giving back to our community and entertaining our fans, and this valuable partnership with Lenovo supports our commitment to both.”
