Ray Carey, CEO of Raleigh-based Internet services firm NeoNova, has left the firm. Jason McGinnis, who was named chief operating officer a year ago, takes over as company president.
“Official day [for Carey] was Thursday,” a company spokesman tells WRAL TechWire.
“Ray has a passion and background in venture capital dealings and is pursuing other interests and opportunities in that area and the company wishes him all the best.”
NeoNova announced the promotion of McGinnis to president on Monday.
“Ray has been a visionary for this company and for our industry as a whole,” McGinnis said in the announcement. “We wish him the best in his future endeavors, and I’m excited to build upon our success and lead NeoNova forward in the years ahead.”
The changes were announced by NeoNova and its parent company, the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC).
Carey had served as CEO since 2010. He had led Azure Capital’s investment in the firm in 2008 and also served on the NeoNova board.
NeoNova provides a variety of services to more than 200 broadband providers spread across 43 states. The company was acquired by NRTC in 2013.
“It’s never easy to lose someone of Ray Carey’s caliber, but we were fortunate to have another leader of exceptional ability and vision within NeoNova,” said NRTC Chief Executive Officer Tim Bryan. “We are extremely confident that Jason McGinnis will excel in his new role as President, building upon NeoNova’s strong tradition of innovation and success.”
McGinnis joined the company in 2008. He worked previously at Perimeter eSecurity, IBM, American Express and Wal-Mart.
He earned a BS in Business Management from Nova Southeastern University and a MS in Management Information Systems from Florida International University.
