Global mobile phone company Truphone is on a growth kick.
The United Kingdom-based company, with U.S. headquarters in Durham, this week opened offices in New York and Houston as part of a U.S. expansion. The New York office will be Truphone’s base for its U.S. sales operations. The Houston site is aimed at serving the international exports business and oil and gas industries in the region.
Truphone provides mobile telecommunications services to businesses that have international operations. Its global infrastructure allows companies to make international calls as easily and as cheaply as local calls, saving on international roaming costs.
Truphone’s patented service covers more than 200 countries. The company’s clients include Fortune 500 companies in multiple industries, such as the financial sector. Those customers can avail themselves of a Truphone recording platform designed to help financial organizations meet compliance requirements, such as those established by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
Truphone’s New York office will be led by Guy Gettens, a 17-year telecommunications industry veteran with experience in both the U.K. and the U.S.

London-based Truphone launched in 2006. It opened its U.S. headquarters in Durham in 2012. The company also has a research and engineering center in Newark, N.J. and an operations center in Cleveland.
