Editor’s note: At the recent Hewlett Packard Enterprise Discover event in London, executives laid out their vision for the new HP, built on the split of the tech giant into services and hardware. Technology Business Research Analyst Cassandra Mooshian liked what she saw and heard. This is the first part of her report.

HAMPTON, N.H. – At Hewlett Packard Enterprise Discover, TBR believes initial response to the new Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) by the 13,000 customer and partner attendees was positive, and the excitement among executives, both presenting and available for conversations and demonstrations throughout the Discovery Zone, was noticeable.

HPE chose not to mention its competitors directly, but did note the interesting timing of two competitors combining (Dell and EMC), while HPE, IBM and CSC are working to reduce organizational size and use automated technologies to become more agile.

TBR believes with new product announcements, cohesiveness in executive presentations and perceived buy-in from customers and partners, HPE is now better-positioned for long-term success than it was prior to the split.

The company will continue to face competitive pressures and cannibalization of its traditional businesses in favor of emerging technologies, but it is better organized internally with clearer reporting structures and go-to-market teams and strategies to invest in the future.

Furthermore, we believe sticking to its four transformation areas will be critical to HPE’s success as these areas help the company narrow its strategic focus and better align with enterprise demand.

These four transformation areas are:

  • Transform to a hybrid infrastructure
  • Protect your digital enterprise
  • Empower the data-driven organization
  • Enable workplace productivity

We expect to see many more product and solution announcements, alliances and even strategic, tuck-in acquisitions from HPE in cloud and analytics to grow these portfolios and IoT capabilities, ultimately with enterprise needs in mind.

HPE Discover, HPE’s first semiannual Discover event as a stand-alone company without the former HP Printing and Personal Systems groups, which now comprise the company HP Inc., was held at ExCeL in London.

The former combined HP typically hosted two Discover events each year, one in Las Vegas in the summer and another in Europe in December. The HPE event, while similar in format and type of information shared, was also a coming-out party for HPE to present itself in a grand gesture to customers, partners and analysts.

HP Inc. had a presence in the Discovery Zone, but only HPE executives, partners and customers were present on stage and in executive one-on-one meetings.

Next: HPE’s corporate alliances
